Directional predictions for 4-class BCI data

چکیده
Brain-computer interfaces (BCI) can allow disabled people to drive a wheel chair, just by imagining movement. Therefore, present day BCIs use training data, recorded during four different conditions, to calibrate a classifier. This, however, causes jerky behavior while abruptly switching between discrete states. We propose a cost-sensitive support vector approach for estimating two-dimensional directions based on fourclass BCI data, that is recorded from three subjects. We found that our method reduces the number of severe errors compared to classical support vector machines and results in a smoother trajectory estimate for application in a wheel chair.

A Novel Design of 4-Class BCI Using Two Binary Classifiers and Parallel Mental Tasks
A novel 4-class single-trial brain computer interface (BCI) based on two (rather than four or more) binary linear discriminant analysis (LDA) classifiers is proposed, which is called a "parallel BCI." Unlike other BCIs where mental tasks are executed and classified in a serial way one after another, the parallel BCI uses properly designed parallel mental tasks that are executed on both sides of...
متن کاملDataset IIIb: Non-stationary 2-class BCI data
Short description: cued motor imagery with online feedback (non-stationary classifier) with 2 classes, and 3-4 sessions from 3 subjects. Aim: Non-stationary (i.e. time-varying) BCI data should be classified. It can be expected that time-varying classifier performs better than a stationary (static) classifier. Moreover, the response time of each method will be evaluated. EEG-data from three diff...
متن کاملTowards a user-friendly brain-computer interface: initial tests in ALS and PLS patients.
OBJECTIVE Patients usually require long-term training for effective EEG-based brain-computer interface (BCI) control due to fatigue caused by the demands for focused attention during prolonged BCI operation. We intended to develop a user-friendly BCI requiring minimal training and less mental load. METHODS Testing of BCI performance was investigated in three patients with amyotrophic lateral ...
متن کاملDirectional changes in the species composition of a tropical forest.
Long-term studies have revealed that the structure and dynamics of many tropical forests are changing, but the causes and consequences of these changes remain debated. To learn more about the forces driving changes within tropical forests, we investigated shifts in tree species composition over the past 25 years within the 50-ha Forest Dynamics Plot on Barro Colorado Island (BCI), Panama, and e...
متن کاملThe role of simulation in developing and designing applications for 2-class motor imagery brain-computer interfaces
A Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) can be used by people with severe physical disabilities such as Locked-in Syndrome (LiS) as a channel of input to a computer. The time-consuming nature of setting up and using a BCI, together with individual variation in performance and limited access to end users makes it difficult to employ techniques such as rapid prototyping and user centred design (UCD) in ...
